San Francisco-based Tagged has gained international attention over the last year for the social discovery website’s partnership with a nationwide awards show and the rollout of creative new applications.
In June 2009, Tagged executives announced they were teaming up with the 2009 BET Awards by designing a custom user homepage featuring BET Awards show polls, news, and information. Tagged, the third largest social networking website on the Internet, again joined forces with BET in October 2009 to present highlights, applications, and MP3 downloads from the 2009 Hip Hop Awards.
In summer 2009, Tagged’s groundbreaking designers created new Gifts and Skins for the site’s 80 million worldwide users to feature on content pages. The Gifts application allows members to purchase graphical items with Tagged’s online Gold currency. Adding to the innovation of the networking site, Tagged members are able to design new Gifts to sell in the Tagged store, where over 2,000 items are on display. Tagged’s growing user base is now capable of building Skins to present creative profile components. Tagged provides 20 in-house constructed Skins, while consumers are able to exchange the Skins they make with one another.
In August 2009, Tagged released Sorority Life, an online avatar game produced in partnership with social gaming company Playdom. Tagged users create stylish looks for their sorority sister characters and then control them as the digital college students navigate busy university life.
Started in 2004 by two Harvard University graduates, Tagged has received $8.5 million in funding from investors over the years. Tagged generates revenue through brand advertising, member subscriptions, advertising networks, and micro-payments. Tagged has more than 35 employees working to develop the latest components in social networking.
